Judge rules in Mayor’s legal fee case

Richmond Hill Post - - Neighbourhood News -

Former Richmond Hill mayoral candidate Sridhar Methuku has been ordered to pay $48,447 of Dave Barrow’s legal fees, says Charles Loopstra lawyer for Mr. Barrow.

According to Charles Loopstra, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice recently awarded his client, Dave Barrow approximately 50 per cent of his legal costs to be paid by Sridhar Methuku. According to Loopstra he had asked for roughly 90 per cent of the actual costs incurred, because the allegations of wrongdoing by the mayor were not proven in the Sept. 12th case. The judge states in his ruling that the motion (put forward to the Town’s Budget Committee of the Whole on April 11, 2013 by Councillor Perrelli) had “as its sole purpose, the creation of an appearance of impropriety” on the part of the respondent ( Mayor Barrow).

Loopstra says that “if he doesn’t win the election [Barrow] may have a substantial defamation action against a number of people.”
