House fire in 905 leads to murder charge

Richmond Hill Post - - Crime -

A 42-year-old Richmond Hill male accused has been charged with first-degree murder, six counts of attempted murder and arson and disregard for human life.

York Regional Police officers arrived at a George Street residence on Oct. 6 and entered the residence when smoke was seen coming from the house.

Inside were two seriously injured people, a 75-yearold female, who has since succumbed to her injuries, and a 42-year-old male.

The same day police discovered that a female, determined to be the wife of the 42-year-old male, had gone to hospital with fire-related injuries.

The investigators uncovered that the female had left the scene of the house fire shortly before police arrived.

The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Nov. 13 after the completion of an investigation by York Regional Police and the Ontario Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management.
