Jeanne Beker’s 2015 guide to the hottest fitness wear to hit the

gym this winter

JEANNE BEKER Post City’s fashion columnist is one of Canada’s most trusted authorities on style, covering the industry for more than 25 years as a journalist, editor, author and speaker. Now, catch her on The Shopping Channel promoting her new eponymous clothing line.

TITIKA, 5 KARL FRASER RD., TOP $68, BOTTOMS $66 “I’m very impressed with this label. This tank is very feminine, very figure-flattering with the curves. There are beautiful criss-cross straps in the front — especially sexy — and a beautiful racer back. I really love their pants, too. The way these mesh panels are located diagonally would be slimming for the legs.”

ADIDAS BY STELLA MCCARTNEY AT SPORTING LIFE, MARKVILLE SHOPPING CENTRE, TOP $65; NIKE AT SPORTING LIFE, BOTTOMS $105 “I love this Stella McCartney top — this really looks like leather. It’s not, but what a fantastic fabrication. It just is a cool little top. I’d wear it out for cocktails! And these Nike pants? Wow! Like an optical trip here. If you want to grab attention at the gym, these are the clothes to do it in.”

C Peppy prints

LOLE, BAYVIEW VILLAGE, TOP $58, BOTTOMS $90 “Talk about the imaginative prints! That’s what we’re really seeing in the activewear department as the category really starts to blossom and burgeon and move in interesting fashion-forward directions. This top is made out of a very silky fabric with a great stretch to it. The bottoms have a drawstring at the top, a nice bit of mesh panelling and little pockets in the back.”

D Clean lines

JOE FRESH, VAUGHAN MILLS, TOP $39, BOTTOMS $16 “This is a wonderful top — certainly great to wear on the way to the gym or for running or cycling outside. We first started seeing this waistband on bottoms a few years back with Lululemon. It’s not an original concept, but it’s one that works. But for $16 dollars?! They certainly look good.”

E Puttin’ on the glitz

LULULEMON, THE PROMENADE, TOP $52, BOTTOMS $102 “They really hit the jackpot in the print department — a wonderful sequin digital print. These leggings are very high and have such a wide band — great for tummy control — while this little top is so nice with the adjustable straps. Really sophisticated.”

F Modernist approach

MICHI AT GOTSTYLE DISTILLERY, 21 TRINITY ST., BRA $95, TOP $195; UNDER ARMOUR AT SPORT CHEK, 9350 YONGE ST. #2, BOTTOMS $94.99 “I really love the mesh; I love the openness of it. It’s wonderfully sexy and is meant to be worn with one of their bras. This is just a great little bra with a heck of a lot of style. These ombré leggings really look hand painted. Nice feel to them, nice weight.”
