Richmond Hill Post - - Neighbourhood News -

Richmond Hill celebrity chef Claudio Aprile is back in the judge’s chair this month with the launch of MasterChef Canada, Season 2. In the show, home cooks from across the country compete against each other in an elimination competition. Finalists compete for a chance to win a $100,000 cash prize. In addition to Aprile, fellow celebrity judges are Michael Bonacini (see profile pg. 35) and Alvin Leung. This year, some local cooks from the area have been named finalists: Afaf Roubi, a stay-athome mom and Gav Martell, a VP of product management, both from Thornhill.

Thornhill resident Sharry Wilson has recently published a book on legendary Canadian rocker Neil Young. Young Neil: The Sugar Mountain Years, published in the fall of 2014, explores the musician’s early life from “from his birth in Toronto through his school years in Florida, Ontario and Manitoba.”

The longest married couple in Ontario, Richmond Hill’s Florence, 89, and Willem, 94, Schurman, will celebrate their 72nd Valentine’s Day together this month. They married three days after the bombing of Pearl Harbour.

Thornhill native Hayden checks into Massey Hall this month for a special performance as part of the popular Live at Massey concert series. The acclaimed singer-songwriter is joined by Dan Mangan + Blacksmith. Hayden’s latest album, Us Alone, was released in 2013 on the Arts & Crafts record label.
