She began working for CHUM back in 1980 and was there when MuchMusic flipped the on switch for the first time. Lorenc currently hosts a radio show dedicated to romantic music that’s on Zoomer Radio AM740, which is run by former Citytv and MuchMusic head honcho Moses Znaimer. The show broadcasts on an old CBC radio signal from the Second World War that is notable for being the longestreaching channel in the country. “I’m the Nightbird, and I’m on late at night,” says Lorenc. “It’s love and romance, the same thing I’ve been doing for a hundred years, and sex at midnight, some double entendre blues out of Mississippi, so it’s fun.” On the occasion of Valentine’s Day, we get the scoop on Lorenc’s fave romantic tunes: • “September in the Rain,” Dinah Washington • “You’ve Changed,” Billie Holiday • “Guess I’ll Hang My Tears Out to Dry,” Linda Ronstadt.
