Police of­fi­cer as­saulted in Rich­mond Hill

A 26-year-old male ac­cused al­legedly threw a knife at a York Re­gional Police ( YRP) of­fi­cer who was re­spond­ing to a dis­tress call.

Of­fi­cers ar­rived at a res­i­dence near Yonge Street and Canyon Hill Av­enue, be­fore 6 a.m. on Feb. 21, to find a male sus­pect be­hav­ing “er­rat­i­cally” in the base­ment of the res­i­dence.

Police asked the sus­pect to come with them to get med­i­cal at­ten­tion at which point he launched a kitchen knife at one of them.

The other of­fi­cers at the scene sub­dued the sus­pect with a stun gun and ar­rested him with­out in­ci­dent. The ac­cused is also charged with two counts of pos­sess­ing a con­trolled sub­stance.

The in­jured of­fi­cer suf­fered only mi­nor in­juries.
