Police officer assaulted in Richmond Hill
A 26-year-old male accused allegedly threw a knife at a York Regional Police ( YRP) officer who was responding to a distress call.
Officers arrived at a residence near Yonge Street and Canyon Hill Avenue, before 6 a.m. on Feb. 21, to find a male suspect behaving “erratically” in the basement of the residence.
Police asked the suspect to come with them to get medical attention at which point he launched a kitchen knife at one of them.
The other officers at the scene subdued the suspect with a stun gun and arrested him without incident. The accused is also charged with two counts of possessing a controlled substance.
The injured officer suffered only minor injuries.
