Bob evokes a feeling of familiarity. It’s the name of a popular hairstyle from 1915; there’s that uncle named Bob; and now it’s a new café at Christie and Davenport. Bob Coffee Bar is the latest brainchild from the group behind Lil’ Baci: Mark Bacci, Suresh Singh and Riyaz Somani.

The concept drew inspiration from coffee joints Bacci has frequented in L.A., Hawaii and elsewhere. The team hopes that Bob — located on a strip that is devoid of places to gather — will become a local hangout, with plans to incorporate live music and book readings into the space in the near future.

With regard to the beans, T.O.’s Hale Coffee and Las Chicas (based out of St. Thomas, Ont.) are on offer for espresso-based beverages and drip coffee. Spiffier sips include the Spanish latte, which is made with condensed milk.

Pastries from Petite Thuet (think danishes, croissants and muffins) are on offer along with chef Brandyn Koester’s salads and sammies for anyone looking for a heartier nosh (Bob Coffee Bar, 440 Christie St.).
