Super popular lifestyle brand lands in the 905

Thornhill and Richmond Hill get a Miniso, eggette waffles, and a new local pub

The Chinese lifestyle brand and everything store

Miniso has landed in Canada, and its first GTA location has just opened a 2,600-square-foot outpost at Hillcrest Mall. The wildly popular store takes its cue from Japanese retailer Muji’s clean, modern designs but with a price point that’s friendlier to dollar store shoppers. The shop offers fun and affordable electronics, makeup, housewares, stationery and pretty much anything else you can think of (9350 Yonge St., 905-237-3405).

Chu Resto is bringing its Wuhan-style hot dry noodles to Richmond Hill. The simple sesame-fried noodles are a night market staple in China. With a rapid expansion plan (Chu Resto has locations already open or opening at Yonge and Finch, Yonge and Sheppard, Scarborough and a resto-lounge at Yonge and Bloor), it may quickly take over Toronto just as easily. For now, residents of the Hill can get a first taste on Highway 7 (370 Highway 7 E., 289597-5686). The Leafs might be out of the playoffs, but there are still plenty of reasons to cosy up to the local brew pub for a spot of yelling at some screens. The brand new

Mills Taphouse could just be the ticket: it’s got a long list of locally brewed craft beers and pub grub both classic and new (fried ravioli! polenta fries!), in an ideal sportswatching setting (9100 Jane St., 905-597-4797).

Chez Jordan has opened up a new shop in Vaughan. The bridal boutique is stocked with collections from Casablanca Bridal Collection, Kittychen Couture, Justin Alexander and more designers. But white dresses aren’t all they do. They’ll also happily outfit the mother of the bride or groom, your bridesmaids, flower girls or just take care of your general evening gown (or prom!) needs (3175 Rutherford Rd., Building E, Unit 13, 905-669-1600). Markham’s first women-only kick-boxing studio,

Hers Kickboxing, has opened a new location in Richmond Hill. The studio focuses on judgmentfree, non-contact fitness kick-boxing, with a variety of classes that give you what you’re looking for, including HIIT Box, Cardio Chisel, Power Box, Booty Blaster and Rhythm Box, for when you’d like to kick butt but with a little Beyoncé-infused sass (9737 Yonge St., #212, 905-477-7007). Hong Kong-style eggette waffles are blowing up in a big way this year. Golden Bubbles is serving up this beloved street snack, made with a batter of eggs, flour, sugar and evaporated milk, topped with superambitious toppings. The matcha red bean waffle is a mountain of green tea ice cream, red bean and whipped cream, served ice cream cone style in a matcha poppy seed waffle. They just opened a new location in Richmond Hill (11000 Yonge St., Unit D2).
