Toronto’s newest fashion week
Fashion in our fair city is having a bit of a moment, from Meghan Markle (now the Duchess of Sussex) rocking a coat by Line The Label to Manolo Blahnik choosing T.O. as the only North American stop for his Art of Shoes exhibition. While fashion is top of mind in T.O., the city is about to get its first annual Indigenous Fashion Week. The event will take place at the Harbourfront Centre from May 31 to June 3. The spotlight will be on designers such as T.O.’s Lesley Hampton (Anishinabe) and Warren Steven Scott (Nlaka’pamux), along with artists from New Brunswick, like Ingrid Brooks (Mi’kmaq), Greenland’s Nuuk Couture (Inuit) and Minnesota’s Delina White (Ojibwa). There will also be workshops and a panel series with Kent Monkman, Jesse Wente and more.
GROWING SUPPORT The show aims to advance and empower Indigenous artists.
