More bowling alleys bowled over by condos
Is bowling going the way of the sock hop, the drive-in cinema and the roller rink? Beginning Sept. 1, Bowlerama Newtonbrook will pack up its pins and close its doors to make way for a massive five-tower condo development after over 60 years of providing wholesome family entertainment to local neighbours. At the end of December, Bathurst Bowlerama will meet a similar fate, and in its place will be the nine-storey Glenhill Condominiums project. Last January also saw the closure of Bowlerama West in Etobicoke, for the 35-storey Pinnacle Etobicoke condo. Bowlerama Thorncliffe? Also gone, as of 2015. Now, you’ll have to book a lane at Richmond Hill Pro Bowl, one of T.O.’s last bowling spots.
