Max­i­mize to­day’s dig­i­tal tools for bet­ter health

Many of us are ea­ger to take ad­van­tage of to­day’s dig­i­tal tools to man­age our health. We want to book doc­tor ap­point­ments, check test re­sults on­line, re­new pre­scrip­tions elec­tron­i­cally and ac­cess more tele­health ser­vices. For­tu­nately, health or­ga­ni­za­tions are work­ing to­wards mak­ing care more con­ve­nient and ac­ces­si­ble.

With to­day’s tech­no­log­i­cal ad­vances, the op­por­tu­ni­ties are end­less to help peo­ple nav­i­gate the var­i­ous health care op­tions. Green Shield Canada, a not- for- profit that strives to im­prove ac­cess to health care for all Cana­di­ans, part­ners with var­i­ous or­ga­ni­za­tions across the coun­try that share their same com­mit­ment to ac­ces­si­ble treat­ment.

Two of the or­ga­ni­za­tions are 211 and Mary­vale. 211 of­fers on­estop ac­cess through a tele­phone helpline and a com­pre­hen­sive web­site that con­nects users to var­i­ous health, com­mu­nity and so­cial ser­vices. Mary­vale is a chil­dren’s men­tal health treat­ment cen­tre in On­tario that uses text mes­sag­ing for ap­point­ments and in­cor­po­rates var­i­ous so­cial me­dia apps to sup­port their clients’ treat­ment and re­cov­ery.

“Tech­nol­ogy is mov­ing so fast and we need to stay cur­rent to en­gage our clients,” ex­plains Con­nie Mar­tin, their ex­ec­u­tive di­rec­tor.

With tech­no­log­i­cal tools be­com­ing more en­trenched in all as­pects of our lives, Cana­di­ans are gain­ing more ac­cess to the health sup­ports we need.
