ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
Shout out to the literary magazines that inspired this issue
Often at literary events, writers are asked, “Where do your ideas come from?” or “Who are your literary influences?” With the release of this, Room’s Magic issue, and my first editorial endeavour, I wanted to answer those questions and acknowledge those who have supported us, offered guidance, and led by example.
Anathema: The subtitle of Anathema magazine, a free, tri-annual online magazine, is “Spec from the Margins.” Within their pages, you’ll find bold, engaging and transformative speculative fiction and non-fiction by queer POC and Indigenous writers. Learn more at anathemamag.com.
Augur Magazine: The editors of Issue 42.1 are indebted to Augur for their leadership in the field of Canadian spec fic. Augur brings together the disparate worlds of literary and genre fiction and publishes fiction, poetry, and comics that explores the liminal. We want to especially thank editor Kerrie Seljak-Byrne for their support of Room and essential advice on this issue. Find Augur online at augurmag.com.
Poetry is Dead, Issue 17 “Coven” (Spring
2018): This issue, which was edited by Vancouver poets Leah Horlick and Adèle Barclay, features writing on witches and the supernatural by jaye simpson, Amal Rana, kai cheng thom, Beni Xiao, and so many more.
Horlick’s and Barclay’s approach to uplifting the voices of marginalized writers in this issue was an inspiration, and we tip our witch’s hats to them. Find more at poetryisdead.ca.
