Sackville Tribune - - COMMUNITY -

Struts Gallery & Faucet Media Arts Centre are set to present the last instalment of Heat Wave, a series of three guestcurated exhibitions in locations outside of the gallery in summer 2014.

The final exhibition of the series, On becoming, curated by Mireille Bourgeois (Halifax, N.S.), will be on view at 25 Lorne Street in Sackville from Aug. 30 to Sept. 20. The exhibition is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 8:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., and includes artworks by Jennifer Campbell (Seattle, WA), Jacynthe Carrier (Montréal, Que.), and Wes Johnston (Halifax, N.S.).

A roundtable discussion with the curator and the artists will be held at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 30, at 7 Lorne Street, followed by a reception. The exhibition and roundtable discussion are free to attend and all are welcome.

On becoming is a presentation of three Canadian media artists consisting of three video projections, which bring the everyday spectacle to two urban spaces that have been abandoned or are open for re-interpretation.

The videos may engage questions of site-specificity, from the perspective of a performed movement or gesture guided by environment, of nomadic spaces and places, or the use of objects that are themselves iconographic of specific sites.

The Heat Wave program has been made possible through support of the Canada Council for the arts and has featured two earlier exhibitions curated by Kay Burns (Fogo Island, NL) and Ryan Suter (Sackville, N.B.), including artworks by Stephen Kelly (Halifax, N.S.), Anne Macmillan (Halifax, N.S.), Liss Platt (Hamilton, Ont.), and collaborators David Hoffos & Mary-Anne McTrowe (Lethbridge, Alta.).
