Third an­nual Carl Ward In­vi­ta­tional set for this week­end

The third an­nual Carl Ward In­vi­ta­tional is set to go this week­end at the Tantra­mar Me­mo­rial Vet­er­ans Civic Cen­ter.

Teams are from through­out New Brunswick, along with North­east Kings Ed­u­ca­tion Cen­ter in the Kentville, N.S., area will com­pete.

Join­ing the TRHS Ti­tans and NKEC with be the Monc­ton High Pur­ple Knights, Nack­awic Hawks, Wood­stock Thun­der, Cle­ment Cormier Cava­liers and the St. Stephen Spar­tans.

The Ti­tans open the tour­na­ment with a tilt against Monc­ton Thurs­day at 7:15 p.m., be­fore a Fri­day game at 3 p.m. against NKEC. Also on Fri­day, the Ti­tans meet Wood­stock be­fore their fi­nal pre­lim­i­nary game on Satur­day at 2 p.m. against Nack­aw­ick.

All bets are off go­ing into the week­end, as each team has played very well in the early go­ing.

Semi­fi­nals will be Sun­day at 9 and 11 a.m., with 1 vs. 4 in the first game and 2 vs. 3 in the other. The fi­nal at 3:30 p.m.

The Carl Ward In­vi­ta­tional has pro­vided ex­cel­lent hockey in its two years of ex­is­tence with the Ti­tans lift­ing the ban­ner both years in hard-fought, lows­cor­ing cham­pi­onship games against Cle­ment Cormier both times.

Tim and Karen Long re­turn as tour­na­ment pres­i­dents.

All mi­nor hockey play­ers wear­ing team jer­seys get free ad­mis­sion. There will also be a Chase the Ace draw.
