MacKinnon receives honour from U of R
University of Saskatchewan president Peter MacKinnon’s “distinguished life” is being honoured by the University of Regina.
The U of R annouced Friday it will award MacKinnon an honorary doctorate of laws degree.
“(MacKinnon) has made an outstanding contribution as a legal scholar and dean. He has built the university to be ‘Canada’s Light Source,’ ” said Robert Hawkins, the U of R’s president, referring to the synchrotron.
MacKinnon said he was “deeply honoured” to be the recipient of the degree.
Previously the dean of law and acting vice-president academic at the U of S, MacKinnon has served as president since 1999. He attended the U of S, Dalhousie and Queen’s universities. A lawyer, teacher and bencher of the Law Society of Saskatchewan, he has published 25 articles and commentaries and received many awards.
