MacKin­non re­ceives hon­our from U of R

Univer­sity of Saskatchewan pres­i­dent Peter MacKin­non’s “dis­tin­guished life” is be­ing hon­oured by the Univer­sity of Regina.

The U of R an­nouced Fri­day it will award MacKin­non an hon­orary doc­tor­ate of laws de­gree.

“(MacKin­non) has made an out­stand­ing con­tri­bu­tion as a le­gal scholar and dean. He has built the univer­sity to be ‘Canada’s Light Source,’ ” said Robert Hawkins, the U of R’s pres­i­dent, re­fer­ring to the syn­chro­tron.

MacKin­non said he was “deeply hon­oured” to be the re­cip­i­ent of the de­gree.

Pre­vi­ously the dean of law and act­ing vice-pres­i­dent aca­demic at the U of S, MacKin­non has served as pres­i­dent since 1999. He at­tended the U of S, Dal­housie and Queen’s univer­si­ties. A lawyer, teacher and bencher of the Law So­ci­ety of Saskatchewan, he has pub­lished 25 ar­ti­cles and com­men­taries and re­ceived many awards.
