HER­MOSILLO, Mex­ico (CP) — Ian Fehrman and Jeff Ellsworth led the of­fence Fri­day as Canada earned the fourth and fi­nal play­off berth at the Pan-Amer­i­can men’s soft­ball cham­pi­onship with a 10-0 win over Gu­atemala.

Fehrman, of Townsend, Ont., was 3-for-4 with three runs bat­ted in as Canada kept its quest for its third straight PanAm gold medal alive. Ellsworth, of Al­ber­ton, P.E.I., went 2-for-4 with a two-run dou­ble and run scored. Rick Smith of Dun­can, B.C., earned the win. Canada faces Ar­gentina in a play­off game to­day. The United States plays round-robin leader Venezuela the sec­ond play­off game, with the win­ner go­ing to the fi­nal. The loser will face the win­ner of the Canada-Ar­gentina match for an­other chance to make the fi­nal.

Canada (6-3) fin­ished the round-robin in a four-way tie with the U.S., Ar­gentina and Cuba.
