Local businesses receive SABEX nods
Three Saskatoon businesses have received two nominations each for the upcoming Saskatchewan Achievement of Business Excellence (SABEX) Awards, to be held on Oct. 28 in Regina.
Yanke Group of Companies has been nominated for the Canadian Bankers Award for community involvement, an award for which the company has been nominated previously. Its competition includes BMO Bank of Montreal Saskatoon, Canada Safeway Ltd., SaskCentral and Triple 4 Advertising Ltd.
Bryan Richards, vice-president of business development for Yanke, said the company’s core mission “clearly defines that we be a community leader.”
The company is involved with the Children’s Health and Hospital Foundation and the Yanke CARE Foundation, Richards said.
“Our mandate is to support the children of our province, specifically those with health issues,” he said.
Yanke was surprised to be nominated in the service category, because there are so many other good businesses in the rest of the province, said Richards.
“It’s a little surprising . . . and rewarding as well,” he said.
Other nominees in the service category include SandCastle Resort, Beneath It All Lingerie, Swimming Pools by Pleasureway and Express Air.
Express Air has also
nomi- nated for the Saskatchewan Industry and Resources Award for new venture, alongside Eagle Drilling, Ozonator Industries Ltd., Perdue Oasis Golf and RV Resort and Western Prime Meat Processors.
The other business, Solar Hydrogen Energy Corp. (SHEC) Labs, has been nominated in the Technology-In-Action (TIA) new Saskatchewan product and Physical Environment categories.
Three other businesses are nominated in the TIA category, Flexxifinger Q D Industries Inc., Ground Effects Environmental Services Inc. and Ozonator Industries.
Ozonator Industries is the other nominee for physical environment.
