Lawton gets first loss


Stephanie Lawton of Saskatoon lost 7-4 in the afternoon draw Wednesday to Jennifer Jones of Manitoba in the Players’ Championsh­ip in Grande Prairie, Alta.

Lawton now falls to the B side in the triple loss eliminatio­n World Curling Tour event and will face Kelly Scott this afternoon.

Michelle Englot of Regina lost to Cheryl Bernard of Alberta 10-2 and will face Amber Holland of Kronau in this morning’s draw. Holland lost to Sherry Middaugh of Ontario 8-5.

On the Men’s side Joel Jordison won his opening game against Kerry Burtnyk of Manitoba 5-4. He will now face Glenn Howard of Ontario this afternoon. Pat Simmons of Saskatoon lost in the late game Tuesday to Kevin Martin 9-3. He faced Mike McEwen of Manitoba in Wednesday’s late draw. Scores were unavailabl­e at press time.

Brad Heidt of Kerrobert lost his first game 7-4 to Glenn Howard of Ontario. Heidt will faceoff against Kerry Burtnyk tonight in the evening draw.
