Adult film star gives flirting tips

“EVERYBODY LIKES A LITTLE FLATTERY.”

MONIQUE ALEXANDER

There were two signs on one of the doors at Prairieland Park during the weekend.

One advertised the Taboo Naughty But Nice Sex Show then underway. The other was for the Saskatoon Family Expo, emblazoned with “Cancelled” in large red letters.

However, business at Taboo was pretty slow Saturday afternoon — mostly couples and cowboys from the equine expo next door.

A couple of cowboys, one in full denim with a silk handkerchief tied around his neck, ambled up to the booth of adult film actress Monique Alexander. They eyed her table, adorned with a collection of her films and some glossy photos, with autographs at $5 a pop.

The denim cowboy got an autograph and had his photo taken with Alexander. He walked away smiling.

“He was really nice,” Alexander said. “He didn’t try any cheesy lines. Guys sometimes ask me to put my number down with the autograph. I don’t think so, buddy.”

Their approach is all wrong, she said. You just don’t jump right to the digits.

“Usually if I’m flirting with a guy I’ll open with a compliment or something,” the Los Angeles native said. “I like guys that smell nice, so I might say something about that, or compliment them on their clothes, tattoos, whatever.”

Just then a couple approached the table and eyed her glossy 8x10s and complimented Alexander on her own tattoo, located on the side of her body from her ribs to her underarm.

“Thanks. It hurt a lot over the ribs,” she said, pointing out a squiggly section of the tattoo just under her arm caused by her uncontrollable flinching when the needle reached her armpit.

“Everybody likes a little flattery,” she said as the couple moved on. “We’ve all got egos.”

While Alexander typically waits for men to make the first move, when she’s flirting with women she’s the type to take charge.

Another good technique is to employ playful teasing, she said.

“It’s sort of like when you were on the schoolyard, and you’d tease the person you liked. Just a gentle nudging. Don’t shove them in the mud or anything.”

The No. 1 thing is to just be yourself, avoid cliches and cheesy lines and just talk.

Alexander considers herself a natural flirt.

“That’s what my friends say. I’m just a really outgoing person. I’m a Gemini, so it just kind of comes naturally to me.”

Alexander has been in the adult film industry for 11 years.
