They’re both back to defend.

Cadmus Delorme and Anna Young will both be on hand to defend their provincial titles when the Saskatchewan mid-amateur men’s and amateur women’s golf championships begin today at the Willows Golf and Country Club.

Delorme, who won his first Mid-Am title a year ago, is coming off the Canadian Tour’s Dakota Dunes Casino Open, where he missed the cut. Delorme also won the Lobstick match-play championship earlier this year.

He will be joined by twotime mid-amateur and twotime amateur champion Colin Coben of Delisle, 2008 Saskatchewan Amateur and three-time provincial junior champion David Stewart, 2008 Saskatchewan mid-am champion Brad Phelps and former provincial junior champion Tyler Frank, all of Saskatoon

Regina Wascana’s Ryan McNall, who was fourth overall last year, and Regina Tor-Hill’s Richard Humeniuk, who was fifth overall a year ago, are also in the men’s field, along with Lloydminster’s John Higgins, who was tied for fifth a year ago.

Other notables from Saskatoon include Garth Cribbs, Rick Hillestad, Blane Nieman, Dean Prosky and Rob Reid.

In the women’s event, the two-time amateur champion and former junior champion Young will be competing in a field which includes three-time provincial junior champion Thea Hedemann from Saskatoon Riverside.

Hedemann finished third a year ago in the Saskatchewan Women’s Amateur.

Also in the field is Kathy Ziglo of the Saskatoon Golf and Country Club. Ziglo’s lengthy golf resume includes wins in the Saskatchewan amateur in 1995 and Saskatchewan junior championship in both 1989 and 1991. She was runner-up in the amateur in both 1996 and 2003.

Melfort’s Judy Sefton, who placed fifth a year ago, was runner-up in the Saskatchewan senior championship in both 2008 and 2009.

Lloydminster’s Jo-Anne Schiller was the 2009 Saskatchewan senior women’s champion and runner-up in 2010.

Saskatoon’s Danielle Pinder, who competed for the NCAA’s Richmond University Spiders during the 2011-12 season, was third in the Saskatchewan junior in 2010.

Rounding out the Saskatoon contingent are Kimberly Brown, Beth Davis, Ann Kirkland, Carla Odnokon, Katherine Robinson, Carol Spanks and Abra Thompson.
