Rindal leads at amateur men’s

Prince Albert’s Preston Rindal is enjoying a twoshot lead at the Saskatchwa­n Amateur Men’s Championsh­ip in Yorkton after scoring a 67 and five-underpar on Monday’s opening round.

Rindal scored six birdies and one bogey to put him two shots ahead of Saskatoon’s Jesse Gibson and Winnipeg’s Derek East who are currently tied for second with 69 and threeunder.

Saskatoon’s Liam Courtney is holding down fourth spot with a 70 and twounder, while Cadmus Delorme of Cowessess and Brent Brown and Matthew Proscyshen, both of Yorkton, are all tied for fifth with a 71 and one-under.

The second round plays today at the Deer Park Municipal Golf Course. Ont.

Three intercepti­ons in the first half led to a 27-2 score after the third quarter with Saskatchew­an’s lone points coming off an Ontario safety touch.

Saskatchew­an went to work in the fourth quarter with two rushing touchdowns from Regina running back Brandon Grasdal, a passing touchdown from Noah Picton to Richard Sindani, both of Regina, and a fumble return touchdown from Regina’s Marcus Hall to make it 31-27 with 1:20 remaining.

Saskatchew­an’s final two points came off of another Ontario safety touch.

Picton and Hall were named Saskatchew­an’s offensive and defensive players of the game.

With the win, Saskatchew­an moves on to play Quebec in the semifinals on Wednesday.
