CURRENT UNSOLVED HOMICIDES/ SUSPICIOUS CASES

-

The Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) provided the StarPhoenix with a list of all unsolved homicides and long-term missing person cases still under investigation. Please note that police did not provide information pertaining to the cases beyond the names of the victims. All details listed were garnered from past media reports. Homicide investigations: ■ 1962: Alexandra Wiwcharuk — Wiwcharuk, a nurse, was last seen on the evening of May 18, 1962. On May 31, a boy scrounging around the scrub near Spadina Crescent and 33rd Street saw her exposed hand. Her skull was broken, her face bludgeoned and her windpipe clogged with sand and dirt. An autopsy determined she was raped and still alive when she was buried, ultimately choking to death.

■ 1974: Al Graham, Frank Harder and Dorothy Cathcart

a.k.a. Dorothy Hall — The three were murdered at the same time, execution-style. Their bodies were found in a house on 20th Street West, and for years police have suspected one person of being the killer. So far, they haven’t been able to gather enough evidence to lay a charge. ■ 1987: Robin Ermine — Ermine was shot in the head at point blank range with three bullets in his own living room on Aug. 14 or 15, 1987. Ermine’s family later claimed his death was not fully investigated because he was a “street person” and a member of “the criminal fraternity.” ■ 1996: Gary Nippi — Nippi bled to death from a severe beating Oct. 5, 1996 following a rowdy party where hairspray was consumed. Elroy Lafond was charged with the murder, but the charge was stayed after a Crown witness changed his story. Specifics from the hearing can’t be published because of a publication ban. ■ 2002: Rizalino Cajuguiran —A preliminary autopsy report concluded that Cajuguiran died from blunt force trauma to his body. The unemployed 43-year old was found in his basement suite at 102 Ave. U South. There were no obvious signs of trauma on the body and no known history of medical problems. ■ 2002: Donna Kasyon — On June 15 around 12:45 a.m., 20-year-old Kasyon’s lifeless body was found at the bus mall in the 3100 block of Laurier Drive. She had been stabbed in the chest and was rushed to the hospital, but died as a result of her injury. It was not known how she arrived on Laurier Drive. She was known to be a sex trade worker. ■ 2003: Glen McCoy — McCoy, 84, died after he was found seriously injured in his home. His house had been broken into. A starter pistol was found at the scene. In the weeks following McCoy’s death, police sought three men seen in the area at the time of the murder. ■ 2004: Delbert Desjarlais — On Aug. 23, 2004. Delbert James Desjarlais, 46, died from stab wounds. His body was found in a Caswell Hill home at 824 Ave. F North. ■ 2005: Logan Quadri — Logan Quadri, 28, was apparently sitting in the driver’s seat of a car parked at the Shell gas station on the corner of Avenue P and 22nd Street when he was stabbed in the chest on the morning of Jan. 16, 2005. According to a station attendant, Quadri got out of the car and fell to the ground. He was taken to hospital where he later died.

■ 2006: Hughie Assiniboine — On May 5, 2006, Hughie James Assiniboine, 23, died from internal damage and blood loss after he was stabbed in chest during an afternoon fight involving about 13 people outside 1622 22nd St. W. At the time, police were investigating possible ties to city gangs. ■ 2006: Darren Greschuk — Greschuk, 31, died in hospital after he was shot on July 8. The owner of a tow truck company and father of one was asleep with his wife inside their home on the 1000 block of Avenue J South when an armed intruder entered the unlocked premises around 4 a.m. and demanded money. Greschuk was shot during a struggle with the intruder, who fled the scene. ■ 2007: Paul Jacobson — Jacobson, a 44-year-old Saskatoon man, was discovered in a ditch by a passerby at Central Avenue and Agra Road in the Sutherland area. His body had likely been in that location for less than a day, police said at the time. His was the second body discovered in the area that year. ■ 2009: Spencer Whiteman — Whiteman, 21, was fatally stabbed after an altercation at a west-side apartment on Jan. 1, 2009. Police released few details about the incident. ■ 2009: Morgan Doucette — Although Doucette was listed as an open investigation, the StarPhoenix could not obtain any details about the case. ■ 2010: Anthony Gunn — On Aug. 26, 2010 police were responding to a report of an assault in the 600 block of Avenue M South when they found the body of 23-year-old Anthony Gunn, a member of the English River First Nation. Gunn’s identity did not become public until members of his family gave his name to the media.
