Regina snowboarder Mark McMorris up for award
REGINA — Regina snowboarder Mark McMorris was conspicuous on the red carpet at the ESPY Awards on Wednesday, even though he didn’t take home a trophy.
The 19-year-old McMorris, who has won the past two men’s slopestyle titles at the Winter X-Games, was among the nominees when ESPN presented its annual awards in Los Angeles.
“I’m very excited, and very honoured to be nominated,” McMorris told TSN, which picked up ESPN’s telecast.
McMorris, the overall world slopestyle champion, was nominated in the Best Male Action Sports Athlete category. He was a runnerup to skateboarder Nyjah Huston. The other nominees were skateboarder Pedro Barros and motocross rider Ryan Villopoto.
“I’d like to say thank you to everyone for all the support — especially in Regina and Canada,” McMorris told TSN. “It has been unreal.”
