Sask. adds to medal haul

Saskatchew­an won seven medals Friday at the Canada Summer Games in Sherbrooke, Que., with six of them coming in athletics competitio­ns.

Lumsden’s Lindsay Kinnear won the gold medal in the Special Olympics 200 metres with a time of 29.61 seconds. It was Kinnear’s second medal in as many days; she won the Special Olympics 100m on Thursday.

Regina’s Jessica Frotten also added to her medal haul with a bronze in the 200m wheelchair race with a time of 41.20 seconds. Frotten won a pair of bronze medals Thursday, finishing third in the 400m and 1,500m.

Also Friday, Michelle Young took gold and fellow Saskatoon athlete Jenna Mann won the silver in the female 100m hurdles. Young finished in 13.81 seconds and Mann completed the event in 13.92 seconds.

Esterhazy’s Matt Johnson ran a time of 14 minutes 35.30 seconds in the men’s 5,000m, good enough to win the silver medal. Daniel Block of Dalmeny captured the bronze medal in the male 800m.

Rowers Kendall Massier (Regina) and Sierra Bronkhorst (Saskatoon) won the silver medal in the female pairs with a time of 7:53.13.

In other Saskatchew­an results Friday:

Women’s basketball: Saskatchew­an topped New Brunswick 62-50 to advance to today’s fifth-place game against Nova Scotia. Regina’s Zayn Dornstaude­r tallied 19 points and seven rebounds against New Brunswick. Britton Belyk, also of Regina, was the only other Saskatchew­an player to score in double figures, with 10 points. Regina’s Christina McCusker grabbed 14 rebounds.

Men’s soccer: Saskatchew­an defeated Manitoba 2-1 in a shootout to finish 10th.

Triathlon: The Saskatchew­an men’s team of Sean Hooper (Regina), Aiden Katz (Regina) and Robert Bigsby (Saskatoon) placed fifth in the 3x relay.
