Allgood trial continues Monday

- HANNAH SPRAY

The first-degree murder trial of George Mitchell Allgood is scheduled to continue Monday in Saskatoon Court of Queen’s Bench.

Allgood is charged with firstdegree murder and attempted murder in the July 15, 2006, shooting of Susan Reinhardt and David Ristow. Reinhardt, who was Allgood’s ex-girlfriend and mother to a four-year-old son they shared, died of gunshot wounds. Ristow was seriously injured.

The trial began Sept. 9 but after the Crown had closed its case and Allgood testified in his own defence, Bodnar indicated he’d been approached by an individual with vague information about the case, which he passed on to police. He requested a one-month adjournment so the information could be further investigated.

The information led police to compare a fingerprint at the scene with an unknown individual, but the analysis was inconclusive and Bodnar wanted further opinions. However, police experts have since told Bodnar that the fingerprint at the scene is of such poor quality that a comparison can’t be done.

“In light of that, we’re calling no further evidence,” Bodnar told Justice Grant Currie on Thursday.

Allgood — who went by the alias Reno (Trevor) Hogg — was arrested in January 2010 after an extensive RCMP investigation in which he confessed to an undercover officer. When he testified at his trial, Allgood denied shooting Reinhardt and Ristow and said he lied to the undercover officer.

The Crown and defence will make their final arguments on Monday.
