Love of Luther College High School leads to $2.5M donation

-

An excellent education, personal support, spiritual guidance, diverse sports.

These are just some of the words Merlis Belsher uses when describing Luther College High School. “My parents died tragically in 1951 when I was 15. At that point, I moved into the dorm at Luther. Luther was not only my school, it was my home. Luther provided me a direction for a university education thus paving the way for my future career,” said Merlis Belsher. After graduating from Luther College, Merlis became a successful businessman, lawyer and chartered accountant. Belsher values his time at Luther and feels it is important to give back to the school that had such an important impact on his life. President Hillis says the generous Belsher donation is part of a larger capital campaign entitled ATime

to Build and enables Luther to maintain a significant piece of history, the gym built in 1951. “The Merlis Belsher Heritage Centre, home to LIT, the annual musical, choir concerts and daily chapel services, holds a special place for not only our alumni and students, but the entire Regina community.” The large scale renewal and expansion project at Luther College High School began in June 2012 and includes 3 new dedicated fine arts classrooms, a new gymnasium, new student commons area, new student fitness training centre, and upgrades to the Heritage Centre as well as other existing structures. The project will be completed in spring 2014.

Thank you to Merlis Belsher for your generous donation to Luther College High School and the A Time To Build Campaign!
