CALGARY — Chris Getzlaf hit a milestone and a detour in the same game.

The veteran Saskatchewan Roughriders slotback surpassed 1,000 receiving yards for the second time in his CFL career in Saturday’s 29-25 loss to the Calgary Stampeders. Getzlaf hauled in three passes for 49 yards before injuring his right knee early in the third quarter.

It’s unlikely that Getzlaf, who returned to Regina on Sunday with a brace on his right knee, will play in Saturday’s regular season finale against the Edmonton Eskimos on Saturday at Mosaic Stadium. Getzlaf has dressed for 93 consecutive games since Oct. 8, 2008, which marked his regular season debut with the Riders. “This is the first time that I’ve had to deal with this,” Getzlaf said after Saturday’s defeat dropped the Riders’ record to 11-6, which means they will host the B.C. Lions in the division semifinal on Nov. 10. “It’s tough because you always want to be out there battling in a tight game with big playoff implications.”

Getzlaf entered Saturday’s game needing four yards to reach 1,000 receiving yards. He now has a 1,045 receiving yards and seven touchdowns on 63 receptions. He had 1,071 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns on 60 receptions in 2011. In 2012, Getzlaf was named a West Division all-star after recording 864 receiving yards and two touchdowns on 60 catches.

“We were able to get (the 1,000-yard mark) early in the game,” Getzlaf said. “It’s too bad because I was feeling it early in the game. I felt like I was winning when I had opportunities. It’s hard watching when you want to be out there helping your team.”

Getzlaf said Saturday that the initial diagnosis was a sprained medial collateral ligament in his right knee. Getzlaf said that team doctors were expected to examine his knee Sunday. An update on his status may be available after the Riders’ next practice on Tuesday.

“It’s sore and I don’t think it will be that major, so that’s a bonus,” Getzlaf told reporters Sunday. “It was a little scarier moment than the actual outcome.”

On Saturday, Riders slotback Weston Dressler had five receptions for 48 yards and surpassed 1,000 receiving yards for the fifth time in six seasons. Dressler has 69 receptions for 1,008 yards and nine touchdowns.
