FIVE FAST FACTS

Perras won two bronze medals at the 2003 Canada Winter Games in New Brunswick. The next year he had a second-place finish at the Canadian biathlon championsh­ips, helping prompt the decision to quit university and move to Canmore to train with the national team.

Perras’ parents, Ed and Bev, still live in Regina. His sister Katie resides in Australia while his brother Thomas — an internatio­nal model — is based in Hong Kong.

Perras spends 17 days at home during the biathlon season, which runs from November to March. He travels throughout Europe, visiting a different country almost every week.

Perras helped the Canadian men’s relay team post a personal best at the final World Cup event before the Games, finishing sixth in the 4 x 7.5km in Italy.

Nicknamed Parebear, Perras was named Biathlon Canada’s male athlete of the year after the 2012-13 season. He posted his first top-10 World Cup result, finishing 10th in the 10-km sprint in Ruhpolding, Germany on Jan. 12, 2013.
