Who: We Were Lovers When: Friday Where: Amigos What: It makes sense that Saskatoon band We Were Lovers is hosting a Valentine’s Day concert, but the sweet sounds aren’t just for people in love. The electro pop duo is encouraging everyone to attend. “Whether they come alone, with a date or with friends, this night is about having fun,” singer Elsa Gebremichael said in an email. As an added incentive, the first 50 people through the door will receive a free copy of the band’s new album Pyramids. We Were Lovers has also been working on new music and will feature some of those songs at the show. Who: Dean Brody When: Tonight Where: TCU Place What: Dean Brody is going otherworldly with his upcoming Crop Circles and Tractor Beams tour. The Canadian country artist was named the No. 1 most-played Canadian Artist on country radio and has earned seven CCMA Awards, including Album of the Year and Male Artist of the Year. His fourth album Crop Circles was recently nominated for a Juno Award for Country Album of the Year. The Voice Season 3 winner Cassadee Pope will open the show. Pope released her album Frame By Frame in late 2013, featuring the single Wasting All These Tears. Her opening slot marks the first time a Voice winner will tour Canada. Pope competed on Team Blake (Shelton), an artist who will play Saskatoon on July 22. Who: Bands galore When: Saturday through Monday Where: Bruno, SK What: It’s time to lace up those skates and string up those guitars for the Picker’s Cup. The self-described tournival in Bruno combines two proud Canadian past-times, hockey and indie music. The event features such acts as Andy Shauf, Kathleen Edwards, Royal Canoe, Daniel Romano and Samantha Savage Smith. Tickets are $75 for a weekend pass and are available at pickerscup.com. Who: Datsik When: Sunday Where: Tequila Nightclub What: On his first major North American tour, Datsik is stopping in Seattle, San Francisco and Saskatoon, to name a few. The Kelowna dubstep producer and DJ is touring in support of his new LP Let It Burn. The album — which features fellow producers Getter and Bais Haus — is available for free download at firepowerrecords.com. Supporting acts on the Digital Assassins tour are Heroes X Villains and Sub Antix. Who: Dave Hause and Northcote When: Wednesday Where: Vangelis Tavern What: If Philadelphia’s Dave Hause and Vitoria’s Northcote (aka Matt Goud) don’t know each other well already, they certainly will at the end of their 55-date North American tour. Both artists recently released albums. Hause’s is called Devour. The single We Could Be Kings was named one of the top 30 songs of 2013 by Classic Rock Magazine. Northcote’s album is self-titled and incorporates his unique background of punk, soul and blues. Who: A Tribe Called Red When: Wednesday Where: O’Brians Event Centre What: It hasn’t taken long for Canadian music fans to fall in love with A Tribe Called Red. The trio’s signature is a blend of thumping electronic music and traditional Aboriginal pow wow songs. A Tribe Called Red — comprised of Bear Witness, DJ NDN and DJ Shub — had five nominations and four wins at the recent Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards, including Best Group. They also landed on the Polaris Music Prize short list for their sophomore album Nation II Nation.
