Warehouse fire burns late

-

An afternoon fire inside a Sutherland warehouse burned well into Friday night and the Saskatoon fire department expected to be on scene into Saturday morning.

Fire crews were not able to get into the warehouse so they attacked the fire from outside.

“We’re surrounding it and drowning it,” said assistant fire chief Glenn Ledray on Friday night. “We’re pretty much doing everything we can think of to get at the fire.”

The Canadian Tire warehouse was packed with items and everything inside is either burnt or burning, Ledray added.

The massive effort restricted traffic around the property at 140 105th Street and forced occupants out of surrounding buildings, including a pet centre that housed dozens of animals.

The blaze started sometime before 4 p.m. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire wasn’t known as of press deadline.
