Charges stayed in attack on Ford

-

Charges against a man initially accused of assaulting a former Saskatchewan Roughriders player and general manager have been stayed.

Tyler Leon Joe Alexson, 29, was charged with robbery and assault with intent to steal in connection with an alleged assault on Monday afternoon against Alan Ford.

Crown prosecutor Anthony Gerein confirmed the charges were stayed on Wednesday afternoon when new evidence came to light. Gerein would not say what that evidence included.

Stayed charges can be brought back before the court any time in the next year, although that rarely happens. The investigation into the alleged assault continues. No one else has been arrested in connection with the attack.

According to Ford’s family and information released by Regina police (in which his name was not released), Ford was leaving a liquor store when he was approached by a man who punched him in the face in an attempt to rob him of his purchases.

The suspect fled before police arrived.
