Bombing suspect loses latest fight against extradition

-

Hassan Diab’s six-year fight to avoid extradition to France suffered a major setback Thursday when the Court of Appeal for Ontario upheld a lower court decision to extradite him to Paris, where he is suspected of being involved in a fatal terrorist attack on a synagogue.

The court also dismissed a request from Diab’s lawyers for a judicial review of the federal minister of justice’s decision to formally order the deportation.

Diab is expected to apply to the Supreme Court for a final appeal.

Diab is a suspect in the 1980 bombing of a Paris synagogue in which four passersby were killed.

Diab, who has no criminal record, says he is innocent.
