UNMIXED RESULTS

-

I am a resident of northern Saskatchewan where our communities, lands and waters, plants, animals, medicines, and the health of the people are directly impacted by the nuclear/uranium industry. The story Nuclear energy attitudes mixed in Sask. (SP, May 13), about nuclear waste storage is relative to the nearly 20,000 Saskatchewan residents who signed a petition to legislate a ban in Saskatchewan.

Prior to 2011, when the Nuclear Waste Management Organization introduced its theoretical experimental proposal for a deep geological repository I would not have had sufficient knowledge to form an opinion on whether the nuclear industry was worthy of support.

I have since read thousands of pages of research on the topic and consulted with many experts in the field and at this point I feel I am well-enough informed to address the simplified questions put forth in the survey done at the Sylvia Fedoruk CCNI through the U of S.

This survey does not in any way reflect whether people really should support the nuclear industry. Most people — including those who work in the mining sector — are blissfully ignorant to the impacts this industry is having in this province and around the world.

This survey is meant to determine if the industry has been successful in making this dangerous product and its lethal waste products sellable. The results show that those interested only in gaining more money will approve of it. Nuclear medicine, which will appeal to the many thousands who are getting sick from living in an increasingly toxic environment and eating toxic foods, is the one assurance for people that nuclear is good.
