Durant and rest of starters to see action in pre-season game
MURRAY MCCORMICK SASKATOON — Observations after Day 12 of the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ training camp at the University of Saskatchewan’s Griffiths Stadium: ROAD RIDERS
The Roughriders have one final walk-through slated for Friday before returning to Regina. The Riders have been in Saskatoon since May 31 when all of the players reported. Training camp opened on June 1. The Riders are to open the pre-season on Saturday at Mosaic Stadium against Ottawa. PLAYING TIME
Quarterback Darian Durant and other starters will see action in the first half on Saturday. With all of the offseason turnover on the roster, head coach Corey Chamblin feels Saturday’s game provides an opportunity for Durant to develop chemistry with the new players. Chamblin also wants to evaluate how other veterans have progressed. MURRAY’S MONSTER
Import slotback Ryan Smith continues to impress while practising with the starting receivers. Smith made a diving, twisting reception despite tight coverage on Thursday. He then completed the catch by racing 25 yards into the end zone. An effort like that is always deserving of Murray’s Monster.
