Three hurt in random shooting in Pelican Narrows

-

Three people were shot in Pelican Narrows as part of a series of weekend incidents.

All three were released after being taken to hospital, and a local man has been charged, according to an RCMP news release.

On Saturday at about 4:25 a.m., Pelican Narrows RCMP were called to a disturbance, according to the release. Approximately 20 people were attempting to smash windows at a residence in Pelican Narrows, located 500 kilometres northeast of Saskatoon.

RCMP members who were already at the Pelican Narrows Angelique Health Centre for a separate incident were advised that one person was being transported to the centre suffering from gunshot wounds. At the same time, other Pelican Narrows members on patrol came upon a victim suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. A third victim was also discovered suffering from gunshot wounds and both were transported to the Angelique Health Centre.

All three victims — a 15-year-old female from Flin Flon, Man., a 14-year-old Flin Flon male and a 19-year-old male from Pelican Narrows were taken by ambulance to Flin Flon General Hospital. All three have since been released.

According to RCMP, a male had exited the Pelican Narrows home with a .22 rifle and began randomly firing at a group of people.

Travis Alphonse Sewap was arrested without incident and faces several charges, including assault with a weapon and discharging a firearm with intent. Sewap is due to appear in Pelican Narrows Provincial Court on Monday.

Alcohol is considered a factor in this incident, say RCMP.
