SCARY WIZARD

-

“We’ee-ee-re off to see the wizard, the wonderful Wizard of Oz.” In that movie, Dorothy and her friends seek from the “Great Wizard” something they each lack. The wizard blusters until Toto pulls aside a curtain to reveal an old man pulling levers and speaking into a microphone.

In “Ozzawa” our wizard is frantically pulling levers to avoid being revealed for what he is. “Look over here, it’s a shiny thing.”

The highest debt in Canadian history, a declining dollar, the largest PMO staff, the most ever spent on advertising, on narcissistic and partisan promotion ... the list goes on.

That’s the deficit side of the ledger. Is an early election on the positive side?

Our wizard bangs the drums and flashes the lights to frighten us. Terrorists are under your bed, everywhere. Be afraid. Be very afraid. Only Stephen Harper can save you. True because he tells us so.

Polls show four out of five people do not question our great wizard. Rational thought has blown out the window. Proroguing is normal; coalitions are illegal; we are in grave danger.

The probability of you being killed by a terrorist is minuscule compared to being killed by a drunk driver.

Yet the law releases drunk drivers after a few months. A teenager spouting “Allahu akbar” could face seven years behind bars.

No other government in Westminster parliamentary history has passed so many laws without allowing amendments. Too bad we cannot just tap our red (or green or orange) slippers together to return to the old Canada. Robert Bandurka Humboldt
