RIGHTS VIOLATION

-

Re: Compromise made on abortion mail out (SP, Aug. 7):

Conscience rights are important because they are our guarantee of living truly human lives. And compromise is, of course, the Canadian way, so this solution within Canada Post on the delivery of the No2Trudeau information is understandable.

Unfortunately, it is also the Canadian way to tolerate and pay for abortion throughout all nine months of one’s pre-natal time of development. Alicia Morin has objected to what she calls the “religious message” of the images of an aborted human being. She said that “to my eyes ... people who are against abortion base those views on religious beliefs.”

The reality is that abortion, the wilful ending of the life of another human being, is a human rights violation. In the context of civil governance, and in an election campaign characterized by candidates who are increasingly only accepted by political parties if they are pro-abortion, the flyers are a legitimate exercise of free speech.

An important phrase used in the pro-life movement is that “injustice that is invisible inevitably becomes tolerable.” The images of aborted human beings are offensive, so why tolerate the intentional violence executed against real human beings by doctors and nurses in our healthcare system?
