RCMP mum on details in Tisdale murder-suicide
As the one-year anniversary of the shocking deaths of a mother and her three young children in Tisdale approaches, RCMP say they will soon be done their investigation — but will not share any information with the public.
“Investigations such as this take an emotional toll and has a lasting impact on investigators,” Staff Sgt. Murray Chamberlin of the RCMP’s major crimes unit said in a statement issued to media on Friday.
“We see and hear things throughout the course of investigation and are not immune to the effects a tragedy such as this has on families and communities as a whole. We thank the Tisdale community who reached out to RCMP members to offer support; your gestures are appreciated.”
The statement referred to “the homicide in Tisdale” but did not name Latasha Gosling or her three children — eight-year-old Jenika, seven-year-old Landen and fouryear-old Janayah — who were killed on April 22, 2015, by Gosling ’s boyfriend, Steve O’Shaughnessy, in the Tisdale trailer where they lived.
O’Shaughnessy fled to Prince Albert with the infant daughter he and Gosling shared, and killed himself several hours later, leaving the baby alone but unharmed.
Gosling was just months from achieving her certification to become an addictions counsellor.
She had enrolled the kids in activities such as swimming, dance and martial arts. Four-year-old Janayah had just been invited to join a competitive gymnastics program in Prince Albert. Jenika was taking a course in Saskatoon to become a children’s clothing model.
RCMP on Friday confirmed again that no other suspects are wanted in connection with the case.
Because O’Shaughnessy took his own life, no charges will be laid and there will be no court proceedings, so no further details of the investigation will be released, RCMP said, adding no “details or updates regarding the children involved in the investigation” will be provided.
