Alternative pingos
DEFINITION: Russian scientists recently discovered 7,000 earthen knobs erupting from the Siberian Arctic, each the size of a hill. An unknown number of these bubbles — called alternative pingos by Vladimir Romanovsky of the University of Alaska — could contain methane and explode.
