Hair donated to program that makes wigs for women fighting cancer
University of Saskatchewan Huskies offensive lineman Connor Berglof got a major haircut on Monday.
The 20-year-old had been growing it for five years, and decided to donate it to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program, which creates wigs out of real hair for women battling cancer.
Donated hair has to be at least eight inches long.
Berglof ’s was 16 inches, so shaving his head was not necessary.
“It’s been a long time since I’ve had short hair,” he said.
“But all the ladies at the salon won’t be jealous of my hair.”
He hopes the hair makes life easier for whoever ends up wearing it, he said. In honour of a cousin who struggled with mental illness for years before he died, Berglof has also been raising funds for another program through his GoFundMe page — the Partnership Program, which is run by the Schizophrenia Society of Saskatchewan, aimed at reducing the stigma behind mental illness.
As of Monday, the GoFundMe page had raised just under $2,700.
The goal is $3,000 by the end of the week.
