City hall closed but pools, golf courses open today

- MATTHEW OLSON

Most people are going to be out having a good time today for Canada’s birthday — which means some city services are going to be unavailable.

Saskatoon City Hall is closed on Canada Day and so are all locations of the Saskatoon Public Library. The Cosmo Civic Centre will also be closed, but all other centres around the city will be open for limited hours during the day.

All fitness and child-minding programs at the civic centres will be cancelled for the day, with regular hours scheduled to resume on Monday. The running track in the SaskTel Sports Centre will be closed for the weekend.

Most banks across the city will be closed for the entire weekend as well as Monday, July 3. TD Canada Trust, RBC, Bank of Montreal, CIBC, Scotiabank and HSBC will all be open for regular hours again starting on Tuesday.

But not everything in the city will have locked doors on Saturday — a lot of family fun hot spots are still going to be open for normal or almost normal hours on the holiday.

And with a bright and sunny weather forecast for Canada Day from Environment Canada, people are sure to be out and about.

The Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park and Zoo and the PotashCorp Playland at Kinsmen Park will be remaining open for the holiday with their regular weekend hours.

The Wildwood, Silverwood, and Holiday Park golf courses will all be running normally as well.

If you’re looking to take a dip in the pool during the weekend, there will be plenty of places to go — the Mayfair, George Ward, Lathey, and Riversdale outdoor pools will all be open, and the Harry Bailey Aquatic Centre is open during the afternoon.

Liquor stores across Saskatoon will still be open on Canada Day. Stores at Lawson Heights, Confederation, University Heights and Riversdale will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the Co-op Liquor Store will be open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.. Sobeys Liquor is unaffected by the holiday and will be open for regular hours, from 9 a.m. to midnight.

And last but certainly not least, the City of Saskatoon has made it so payment for parking at public pay stations will not be required on Saturday. Regular services including garbage pickup and recycling will still be in effect.
