Surveillance cameras installed on the clubhouse of the Nutana Lawn Bowling Club after a string of break-ins this summer have done their job.

On Monday, during the most recent incident, the cameras caught clear images of a man suspected of perpetrating burglaries at the clubhouse on the corner of Melrose Avenue and Seventh Street.

“It was based on the fact the burglar always stole cookies, can(s of ) pop and money left behind in the clubhouse after closing,” club member Joseph Chan said in a Facebook message exchange on Monday evening. He said four of the nine break-in attempts this summer were successful. Doorknobs, locks and windows were damaged. In one incident, a sound mixer was stolen.

Chan said the club installed the cameras before the seventh attempt.

He posted a four-minute video captured during the last incident on Facebook. It shows the man walking into the clubhouse through the door and taking cans from the fridge. At one point, he exits the clubhouse and re-enters with what appears to be a machete.

Saskatoon police said five reports about break-ins at the clubhouse have been made since June, and all are being investigated.

Police spokeswoman Kelsie Fraser said investigators have the video and image from the latest event, but have not identified the man yet.
