Huskies teams in win mode
Huskies sports teams were a combined 8-0 on the weekend.
The men’s basketball team defeated Thompson Rivers 89-66 on Friday and 80-61 on Saturday at the PAC. Lawrence Moore led the Huskies in both games with 27 points on Friday and 22 on Saturday. The women blew away the same university, winning 90-34 on Friday, and 79-45 on Saturday.
In women’s hockey, fifth-year captain Kaitlin Willoughby scored on a short-handed breakaway and added an assist to reach the 100-point plateau for her career with the Huskies on Friday. The Huskies defeated host UBC 2-0 before winning 2-1 on Saturday over the No. 1 ranked Thunderbirds.
In men’s hockey, the host Huskies won 5-2 on Saturday after a 4-3 overtime win on Friday. Levi Cable notched the overtime winner.
Meanwhile, U of S crosscountry athlete Courtney Hufsmith finished as a conference all-star and all-Canadian at the Canada West and U Sports Championship in Victoria on Sunday. Hufsmith finished third in the Canada West and 11th in the national eight-kilometre race with a time of 28:24.69.
