Huskies teams in win mode

Huskies sports teams were a com­bined 8-0 on the week­end.

The men’s bas­ket­ball team de­feated Thomp­son Rivers 89-66 on Fri­day and 80-61 on Sat­ur­day at the PAC. Lawrence Moore led the Huskies in both games with 27 points on Fri­day and 22 on Sat­ur­day. The women blew away the same univer­sity, win­ning 90-34 on Fri­day, and 79-45 on Sat­ur­day.

In women’s hockey, fifth-year cap­tain Kaitlin Wil­loughby scored on a short-handed break­away and added an as­sist to reach the 100-point plateau for her ca­reer with the Huskies on Fri­day. The Huskies de­feated host UBC 2-0 be­fore win­ning 2-1 on Sat­ur­day over the No. 1 ranked Thun­der­birds.

In men’s hockey, the host Huskies won 5-2 on Sat­ur­day af­ter a 4-3 over­time win on Fri­day. Levi Ca­ble notched the over­time win­ner.

Mean­while, U of S cross­coun­try ath­lete Court­ney Huf­smith fin­ished as a con­fer­ence all-star and all-Cana­dian at the Canada West and U Sports Cham­pi­onship in Vic­to­ria on Sun­day. Huf­smith fin­ished third in the Canada West and 11th in the na­tional eight-kilo­me­tre race with a time of 28:24.69.
