Rush lose to Rock in first pre-season encounter
The Saskatchewan Rush got their first taste of preseason National Lacrosse League action out of the way on Saturday. The Rush had an 8-5 halftime lead but ended up losing 13-11 to the host Toronto Rock.
The Rush return to action with a pre-season game Saturday at home against the defending champion Georgia Storm. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at the SaskTel Centre.
BLADES DROP PAIR ON WEEKEND
The Saskatoon Blades dropped a weekend pair of games to Eastern Conference rivals.
A late comeback fell short on Friday with the Blades losing 6-4 at home to the Swift Current Broncos. Similar results on Saturday with a 3-1 loss to the host Brandon Wheat Kings.
Trailing 5-2 entering the third period on Friday, the Blades got to within one before a late empty-net goal sealed the game for the Broncos. On Saturday, a 36-save effort by Wheaties goalie Logan Thompson thwarted the Blades attack.
The Blades are now 7-101-0 with 15 points, and are four points out of the final playoff position.
The Blades return to action when they host the Moose Jaw Warriors on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. at SaskTel Centre.
HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PROVINCIALS
The host North Battleford Vikings won their first 3A high school provincial 12-man championship since 1995 with a 14-7 victory over Yorkton on Saturday.
The 3A nine-man champions for the second year in a row, are Lumsden, who had no trouble defeating Kindersley 68-20. In 2A nine-man, it was Shaunavon defeating Indian Head 24-7. Clavet outslugged Dalmeny 72-70 in the 2A six-man championship while Raymore are the kings of 1A football with a 46-35 victory over Hanley. Postmedia News
