A REASON TO BE JOLLY

Santa Claus rolls into town on Sunday

Santa Claus will step away from his workshop and hit the streets of Saskatoon on Sunday to officially ring in the holiday season.

The 27th annual Santa Claus Parade begins at 1 p.m. and is free to attend.

The first float — carrying Mayor Charlie Clark, the parade’s grand marshal — will set out from the corner of 19th Street and Third Avenue South.

From there, the parade travels north along Third Avenue to 21st Street, heads over to Fourth Avenue and up to 22nd Street, then travels along 22nd Street to First Avenue before turning south down to 21st Street and First Avenue, ending at Midtown Plaza — where Santa Claus will be taking up residence to hear Christmas wishes from Saskatoon kids.

Although current forecasts are calling for sunny skies and a high of -3 C on Sunday afternoon, organizers suggest spectators bring along chairs, blankets and perhaps a mug of hot cocoa to keep warm while Santa and his entourage make their way through the parade route.

Postal workers will be visible along the route, collecting letters from children for delivery to Santa Claus before Christmas.

Please be sure all letters are addressed to Santa Claus at the North Pole. Use the postal code HOH OHO to ensure your letter makes it to Santa in time for him to read it before Christmas.

All proceeds from this year’s parade will be donated to Ronald McDonald House Charities Saskatchewan.
