A legendary Canadian comedic duo is set to host the 2018 Silver Spoon Dinner in Saskatoon.

Colin Mochrie and Debra McGrath — who in addition to performing together have also been married for nearly 30 years — will serve as hosts of this year’s event, scheduled for May 7 at TCU Place, organizers announced Tuesday. Mochrie is most famous for his time on the improv program Whose Line Is It Anyway?, while McGrath has performed in several Canadian TV shows, including Little Mosque on the Prairie.

“We’ve realized that ladies love funny so we are rolling with that,” said Silver Spoon Dinner co-chairperson Robin Sasko. “It’s going to be a great night out with the girls.”

The popular annual event is now into its 28th year, hosting upwards of 1,000 women annually in support of local charities Interval House and Ronald McDonald House, Saskatoon’s Congregation Agudas Israel and international charity Canadian Hadassah-WIZO, which helps run hospitals, schools and childcare centres worldwide.

Each year, the event also honours one local woman with the Sterling Award, which represents ongoing service to the community through volunteer work or other contributions that enhance the quality of life in Saskatoon.

Tickets for this year’s event — which includes dinner and drinks, door prizes, a 50-50 draw and silent auction — go on sale Jan. 11 at noon. Until the end of February, tickets are priced at $200 each. After that, the ticket price increases to $225. Ticket information can be found on the Silver Spoon Dinner website.

“It’s really nice to find Canadian (hosts) and especially ones so recognizable,” Sasko said.

“Everyone was so excited that they were available and could come together because I think together they are extra funny. So this year, I think people can look forward to some fantastic entertainment and a lot of laughter.”
