ANYONE SEEN GRAHAM LATELY?

Pride of Weyburn keeping busy off the course as he recovers from stem cell surgery

- JOHN GRAINGER

1 Hearn progressing David Hearn continued on his quest to get full status on tour after recording a T10 with partner Seamus Power of Ireland at the Zurich Classic last week in New Orleans. That was two solid weeks in a row for Brantford, Ont.’s Hearn. He won’t have a chance to keep his good luck rolling — he’s not in the field this week for the Wells Fargo Championship.

2 Lots of Canucks here

Speaking of the Wells Fargo, there is another strong Canadian contingent including Adam Hadwin, Corey Conners, Nick Taylor, Ben Silverman and Mac Hughes. Of note, Conners is teeing it up with the next generation of Love — Dru Love. That’s David Love III’s kid. Hadwin, Canada’s top pro right now, did not play last week at the Zurich Classic. Hadwin, ranked 44th in the FedEx Cup standings, plays alongside Aussie veteran Rod Pampling and American Billy Hurley III in the first two rounds.

3 DeLaet on hiatus

Have any Canadian golf fans missed The Bearded One, Graham DeLaet? It’s been months as he’s been rehabbing after stem cell surgery. The pride of Weyburn has been busy off the course. Recently, he was named to the Boise State Hall of Fame, his alma mater. Also, he’s gone out and landed himself a pilot’s licence. Now, if only he would only be able to say when he’ll return to the PGA Tour.

4 Courtney at Q School

Saskatoon’s Liam Courtney is in the field for the final Q School event for the Mackenzie Tour-Canada event being played this week at the Crowne Isle Resort in Courtenay, B.C. Courtney spent time at colleges in Texas and Colorado before taking a shot at the Mackenzie tour. He finished the first day with a T68 after firing a 74 in the opening round on Tuesday. The first Mackenzie tour event is May 31-June 4 at the Freedom 55 Financial Open in Vancouver.

5 Kane teeing it up

Canadian legend Lori Kane is one of six Canadians in the field for this week’s stop in for the Volunteers of America LPGA Tex Classic. Joining Kane are Brooke Henderson, Brittany Marchand, Maude-Aimee Leblanc, Alena Sharp and AnneCatherine Tanguay. All eyes seem to be focused on Henderson, so it would be nice to see another Canadian step up and have a great week. Sharp is due to shake the dust.
