SPCA seeks help finding dog that escaped over weekend

-

The Saskatoon Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is asking for the public’s help tracking down an escaped dog.

Calling the escape an “unfortunate” and “rare” incident in a post on its Facebook page, the SPCA said the dog, a tan intact male pit bull-labrador mix named George, escaped from the organization’s lost and found area over the weekend.

“An outside security camera captured footage of him around the perimeter of the facility soon after his escape, but it is unknown which direction George travelled after leaving sight of the camera,” the SPCA said in the post.

The organization indicated it sympathizes with the owner and “deeply regrets” the beloved family member went missing under SPCA care, also apologizing that the owner was “not notified immediately upon the realization that George had escaped from the facility.

“The Saskatoon SPCA will be addressing the issues that led to the escape of her pet and the delayed notification of the owner, as well as taking steps to assist in locating George and returning him home,” the organization’s Facebook post read.

“It is a rare incident that an animal may escape while being brought to the shelter, and even more rare that an animal escapes from within the building.”

The SPCA said it will address containment issues identified as a result of the escape. Members of the public who see George, or have information about his whereabouts, are asked to contact the SPCA at 306-374-7387.
