Living Sky’s new location is picture perfect
There were some restless days and nights for the Living Sky Cafe’s owner when the Mendel Art Gallery underwent its transformation to the Children’s Discovery Museum.
“It was terrifying,” says owner Taylor Morrison. “In the reality of it you think it would be nice to take a break but I’m not that kind of person. I love to just be super busy and I love this business so it was kind of heartbreaking to pack it all up and not know when it would come to fruition again.”
The forced move from inside the Mendel gallery along the riverbank to downtown Saskatoon ended up being a good thing, she says now. It allowed her the opportunity to offer more food and drink options — cocktails, all-day breakfasts and more — and also expand into table service. For those simply wanting a quick coffee and sandwich on the way to work, that’s covered, too. Living Sky Cafe even has plans to expand into event catering, she says.
Morrison’s aim is to put an emphasis on local sourcing and sustainability. Not only do cafe staff create in-house and from scratch all of their own syrups and sauces, they also try to source as much of the food and drinks as possible from other local businesses. Morrison and her parents pick out produce each morning to guarantee its quality. It’s all done to ensure the best experience possible, she says.
“I want people to come here and feel our love for what we do and for food,” she says. “We’re really big on greeting people and getting to know them by name and finding out what their favourite thing is to order. We just want people to feel comfortable and appreciated because we appreciate every person that chooses to come here.”

Cynthia Fey’s journey into the world of hypnotherapy began after seeing the positive results the process had on her husband — a veteran of the Canadian Forces.
Since then, Fey has studied hypnotherapy under a number of mentors including Marisa Peer, who has worked with world renowned actors, musicians and Olympians.
“It’s actually much more than hypnotherapy,” said Fey, formerly an education professor at the University of Saskatchewan.
“It’s a hybrid of all the best that is out there ... and it works for two things: to free people from issues like anxiety, depression, phobias, addictions and weight and eating problems, but it’s also for strengthening people to reach their peak performance.”
Fey says she can not only free someone from the problems negatively affecting their life, she can also help instil a sense of confidence to make it easier to achieve success.
Her process is like spring cleaning at all levels of consciousness, Fey says.
Each session generally takes between 90 minutes and two hours, though longer specialized sessions are available. Afterward Fey provides her clients with a personalized audio tape to help continue to solidify the subconscious work from home.
Fey not only works with adults, but is registered within the province to work with children and help with issues such as exam anxiety and concentration. She also offers specialized sessions for children with autism and disabilities.
“You can’t solve a problem at the same level of consciousness that created it,” she says. “The mind likes what’s familiar ... no matter how much you want something consciously the subconscious is going to be working against you, so you have to work at all levels of consciousness. Nowadays people have a team of health professionals working with them, so why not have someone working on the subconscious, too?” Cynthia Fey Rapid Transformation Coaching and Hypnotherapy Owner: Cynthia Fey
