5 WEEKEND ACTIVITIES
It’s the middle of June already and we have summer on the brain. Here are some fun things to contemplate for the weekend:
1. ’80s dance party
Two of the biggest bands of the ’80s are at Dakota Dunes on Saturday night. Wang Chung and The Cutting Crew will play their biggest hits while they pull you down memory lane. Big hair is optional. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. Everybody have fun tonight ...
2. A night at the opera
Patrons of local opera will enjoy La Boheme when the production hits the stage at Remai Arts Centre on Saturday for the opening night of the Saskatoon Opera’s version of the Puccini classic. Other performance days are june 19, june 21 and June 23.
3. Two Spirit Powwow
The Bowl at the University of Saskatchewan is the place on Saturday for Revitalizing the Circle: Saskatoon’s First Two spirit Powwow. It’s been described as an event to create a safe space for all, especially Two Spirit people, to take part in cultural celebrations in gender affirming spaces. Grand entry begins at noon.
4. Rollin’ on the river
Another event for the Saskatoon Pride Festival is OUT on the River on Sunday afternoon. Transforming the Prairie Lily into the Pride Ferry, the cruise promises to be a lot of fun, with food and drinks for those on board. Sailing time is 3 p.m.
5. Ride for dad
You might want to get your motor running for the annual motorcycle Ride For Dad event set for Saturday. This is the 10th annual event, and a major fundraiser in the fight against prostate cancer. A sunny morning and a pancake breakfast will kick things off at 8 a.m. at the Western Development Museum. The big ride begins at 10:45 a.m. sharp.
